Lonely Planet's top 10 regions

The Istrian peninsula

We like to compare Istria with Tuscany but tone Tuscany down a notch – thin the tourist hordes, lower the prices, sprinkle a little mystique – and you get Istria.

A wonderful golfing tour in Istria

Treated Like Royalty

In the beginning of April I visited Istria on a golfing holiday with a group of 14 Finnish golfers. We were treated like royalty by Pino and his staff stationed in the resort.

Played two rounds of golf at the resort course Adriatic and an extra round at the nearby golf course Trieste.

The best of Tuscany and Venice rolled into one.

Europe’s hot spots - Istria

We in Istria like to say that the Istrian Peninsula is the best of Tuscany and Venice rolled into one. Vineyards along the coastal towns lie steps from the beach.

Istria is also home of one of the best golf courses in the region, the 18-hole championship golf course Adriatic.

18-hole championship golf course

Golf course Adriatic

Played here a few times between Jul-Sep 2017. A challenging layout with considerable elevation changes - especially on the outward 9 holes - and some tight driving holes.

Greens in excellent condition (fairways good) despite playing here over the hotter summer months.

Worth a visit for the keen golfer., .... Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer

Dining at hotel Kempinski Adriatic

Dining at hotel Kempinski

At the hotel restaurant Dijana, the menu features Mediterranean cuisine including grilled meat and fish, as well as black and white truffle specialties prepared with excellent local olive oil.

The Istrian region, famous for the prized white truffle, also produces excellent wine, ham and cheese.

Golf on untouched nature

Golf & Country club Brijuni

This course is like the blast from the past. Since you are playing in a National Park. The nature around is beautiful, the views are extraordinary.

Most of the holes are situated right by the sea.

Tuscany's twin at half the price

Istria best-kept secrets

Istria is one of Europe's best-kept secrets. It has been called "Tuscany's twin at half the price" more than once.

It has become the epicenter of Croatia's food and wine scene.

4 stars self catering apartments

Golf apartments Skipper

Pino called to check if everything was all right, we told him, we have been here for just an hour, sitting by the pool with drinks in our hands, and feeling like home already.

Staying at the apartments has that effect on you.
